Arbitrariness and Violence at Syntagma-Athens

Posted by ΚΙΝΗΜΑΤΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΑ ΚΑΤΩ Κυριακή, Οκτωβρίου 23, 2011

Since early morning, last Thursday PAME (communist worker union controlled by KKE, the Greek communist party) stood in formation around the Parliament, preventing -in an abusive and aggressive way- anyone who was not a member from approaching. Revealing video and photos.
As time went by, it became obvious that this was not a temporary halt, as they usually do when PAME members demonstrate; it was a permanent occupation of the space along with a prohibition of any citizen (except their members) to pass through.
This stance was gradually infuriating the rest of the citizens, which vigorously complained about this via our live program numerous times. The citizens' disapproval was later repeatedly expressed through the chants that they massively shouted: KKE is the party of the snitches and Come on, Peoples, don't stoop, they will betray you once again like in Varkiza (both are paraphrases from well-known chants of KKE supporters).

At noontime, members of the 'I'M NOT PAYING' movement approached the preventive 'wall' that PAME members had formed, asking for the obvious; i.e., their free movement so that they could protest in front of the Parliament. This was refused by PAME members. Following this incident, the members of the 'I'M NOT PAYING' movement left and remained at the bottom side of the square.

The following video confirms this description of the events:

Following this incident, citizens of all ages, gender, etc. (as the relevant videos reveal) attempted to proceed towards the occupied by PAME zone around the Parliament. Once again, free movement was denied to them by the members of PAME.

Conflicts between PAME members and the rest of the citizens started at this point. Citizens were simply asking to demonstrate in the forbidden -by PAME- area in front of the Parliament.

These initial conflicts were followed by a sudden and unprecedented raid of PAME members against the citizens. This resulted in the violent beatings of many citizens by PAME members holding wooden sticks. Other citizens were trampled upon.

This is the exclusive video that confirms our description of the events.

As STOPCARTEL, we express our deep sorrow for the unfair death of Dimitris Kotsaridis 53,and our honest condolences to his family.
At the same time we stress that the protection of the Parliament by PAME was a blatantly wrong political decision of its leadership that irrevocably exposed KKE.
Furthermore, what we witness in the (recorded on video) raid of PAME members is the physical abuse of the citizens that do not ideologically agree with KKE. This is the worst possible testament for an official political organisation and its tactics, that violates every sense of human and political values and norms.
